Find your balance: School, work & social life

Daria Jenkins

At this point in the semester school is in full swing. You’re finally settled into your classes. Something that can be consistent in your daily routine is stress. Whether it be from homework, a new job, clubs or just finding the time to spend with friends, sometimes you just feel like you don’t have enough time in your day. In this post I’m here to help you find your balance.

Everyone has different things they prioritize and things that they juggle, but the trick to it all is time management.

I know we’ve all heard it before, get a planner don’t take on too much and so on and so forth, but everyone is different. Some people can manage multiple jobs, clubs as well as their school work, while others work best with only a couple commitments. Both are personal preferences, but to manage your load is the key to get the most out of your time.

In college there is a lot to do, sporting events, homecoming, and the weekly events held by different clubs and organizations. There’s always something to do, but the question is how?

One tool that every college student, in my opinion, should be using is Google Calendar. It allows you to put in your class time as well as where they are. You can also color code your schedule based on school, work and personal.

Another tool is just a simple planner - and actually using it. Putting in your homework, writing down when you make plans and keeping yourself organized so that you can visualize what tasks you need to accomplish.

Lastly, and probably the most important tool in my belt, is self care. Take a break from writing that paper and eat a snack. Have a girls night in or hang out with the guys after a stressful day, and most of all take care of yourself. Make yourself a priority.
